Tian An Men Square and the Forbidden City

We got up early Sunday and went to Tian An Men Square.  Poor Meredith was freezing after we got out of the van.  Not to fear there were plenty of street vendors there selling stocking caps and she felt allot better when her head was warm.  Many significant things have happened here as part of China's history  Historically this is a place where people can bring their grievances to the Emperor.  It is right outside the gates to the Forbidden City.  From Tian An Men Square we walked under the highway and through the main gate into the Forbidden City.  The Forbidden City was very grand.  There were many gates and many courtyards.  All of them separated the emperor from the people.  You can definitely see the belief that the Emperor was divine.  Everything about the Forbidden City modeled that belief.
